Item Details
Description
The Hostilian Roman Imperial Gold Aureus, minted during the period of AD 250-251, refers to a type of ancient Roman coin issued during the reign of Emperor Trajan Decius. Hostilian was appointed Caesar by his father, Emperor Decius, making him co-emperor for a brief period before his untimely death. These aurei, made of gold, typically feature the portrait of Hostilian on one side and symbols or inscriptions indicative of his status as Caesar on the reverse side. Despite his short reign, coins bearing Hostilian's image are valuable historical artifacts, shedding light on the political and dynastic dynamics of the Roman Empire during the Crisis of the Third Century. They are highly prized by collectors and numismatists for their rarity and historical significance.
