John F. Lehane of St. Louis Southwestern Railway Co. of Tyler Texas autographed typed letter (TLS) concerning Confederate Battleflag books. Dated Oct. 3, 1905 Lehane writes to a "Mr. W. M. Shaw" in-part “...I am sending you under separate cover two copies of the picture of the Hon. John H. Reagan...Our supply of the Battleflag books is about exhausted but duplicates can be secured from the Buxton and Skinner Stationery Co., St. Louis....” (This may refer to the book, “Returned Battle Flags,” mentioned in William Sebring lot.) Reagan was Confederate Postmaster General, Treasury Secretary, and imprisoned with Jeff Davis.
Typewritten in purple on thin ivory manifold tissue. Accompanied by Shaw’s reply envelope, pink 2¢ embossed Washington postal stationery. On verso, he has noted in pencil, “10 copies.”
Light wrinkling from original folds, else very fine.
