George Canning autographed handwritten letter (ALS) 3-pages, front and interior spread of a single folded sheet, dated March 6th, 1810. Canning writes in part: "Captain [William Furlong] Wise of the [HMS] Spartan is a very intimate acquaintance of mine, having brought me & my family (including my son whom I am sending to sea) from Lisbon. I am choosing the ship which he commanded for my son's first voyage."

George Canning (11 April 1770 – 8 August 1827) was a British Tory statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from April to August 1827. He occupied various senior cabinet positions under numerous prime ministers, finally becoming Prime Minister for the last 118 days of his life.
