Impressionist depiction of pink, yellow, red, and white peonies arranged in a jar situated on a white table cloth. Largely self-taught, Roseland received some education in art under James Barnard Whittaker in Brooklyn, starting off with landscapes and still lifes. He later switched to genre paintings as he enjoyed telling stories.
