Sketchbook #1, 1966-67. No slipcase. Significant sun bleaching to spine, light marks across cover, some light color wear to bottom edge of blue pageblock. Includes German translation booklet, tanned and creased.
Sketchbook #2, Late 1967- Mid 1974. Slipcase has some shelf wear and nicks at opening. Book is very fine. Includes German translation booklet, lightly tanned. Uncommon.
Sketchbook #3, Nov. 1974- Jan. 1978. Slipcase has some corner wear and a crease at the bottom of the spine. Book is very fine. Includes German translation booklet, has foxing and pen marks. Also includes original paper wrapper for booklet (?), creased with some minor tears.
Sketchbook #4, July, 1978- Nov. 1983. Significant soil and tanning to slipcase, 4" tear along top edge, open edges crimped. Book is very good, some surface wear/soil. Includes German translation booklet, has foxing. Also includes original paper wrapper for booklet (?), creased and tanned.
Sketchbook #5, November '83- April '87. Slipcase in very good condition, some light shelf wear and soil. Book is very fine. Includes German translation booklet, lightly creased.
Sketchbook #5, November '83- April '87. Another copy. Brand new, never removed from printed paper wrapper. Wrapper soiled and tanned, and is split in a few spots.
Sketchbook #6, May '87- April '91. No slipcase or translation booklet. Minor shelf wear.
Sketchbook #7, April '91- Sept. '96. Slipcase has a crease along the back/bottom, as well as some light soil and bumps to opening. Book has minor shelf wear. Includes German translation booklet, light tanning.
It's said that Crumb sold the original copies of six of these seven sketchbooks in 1991 for a large enough sum to enable him and Aline Kominski-Crumb to buy a chateau in southeastern France. The Zwei Tausend Eins Crumb sketchbook series was a monumental work of great significance to Crumb connoisseurs, and although the sketchbooks have been reissued by Taschen in a lovely slipcased set, the reissues are heavily edited. These German sketchbooks are unabridged, and include virtually every doodle ever made by Crumb.______________________________________________________________
