Description
Southeast Asia, Northern Thailand, Lanna, ca. 19th century CE. A stunning gilt wood Lanna-style Buddha statue seated on a lofty pedestal, depicting the Bhumisparsa mudra or "earth witness" hand gesture. The red lacquered wood base features intricate lines of script wrapping around all four sides, possibly conveying a prayer or dedication. Size: 3.5" L x 2" W x 7.25" H (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm x 18.4 cm)

According to the consignor, this piece was previously owned by the Portland Art Museum in Oregon.

Condition
Old chip to top of conical headdress, otherwise intact without repairs. Chipping and fading top pigmetns and gilt as shown. Nice weathered appearance. Old museum inventory number on the base.
