Item Details
Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A squat jar of a round-bottomed form with a smooth shoulder that tapers to shape the thin rim. Presented along the shoulder is a pair of integral lug handles with bow-drilled perforations for suspension, and the interior basin was formed with a series of progressively finer drill bits. The narrow form of the rim suggests that a lid once accompanied this vessel and secured the contents held within. This type of vessel would have contained oils and perhaps animal fats to be used as moisturizers or other salves to protect against the harsh Egyptian sun. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.125" W x 1.75" H (5.4 cm x 4.4 cm)
