Description
Japanese gilt bronze standing figurine, 19th century. Crisply and delicately cast as Avalokitesvara in the earlier male manifestation apparently, standing as a tall slender figure swaying forwards and to the right, wearing a Buddhist tiara on the high knotted hair, liner-pattern ribbons trailing down across the shoulders, tightly-gathered robes floating around the feet and holding an ambrosial flask lowered at the left side and a mudra mademu in the raised right hand, all on a single-lotus upturned base, the surface with extensive original gilding remaining principally on the recessed areas, head and chest, fitted box.
