Description: Large oil on canvas antique portrait of a nobleman from Queen Elizabeth I's court, circa 16th century. Fine half-length photo of the senior clergyman wearing a black and ornate white ruff while clutching a psalm book or pocket bible. The clothing is reminiscent of the Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, as depicted in Sir Nicholas Bacon's pictures. Although it was painted after Holbein's passing, the style is evident. shown in a frame with ebonizing. The Dulwich Picture Gallery owns a painted oak panel variant that is comparable. Measuring approximately 27" by 23" when framed.
