Description
An Eastern European sword, Kipchak period to early Mongol period, 12th - 13th centurySlightly curved sword in the upper part with a blunt back, which bends more sharply in the lower, double-edged part. Trapezoidal, inwardly offset handle tang at the top, with a groove on the front side and two rivet holes. Below the tang there is a ricasso attached with sheet iron, which runs with an approx. 18 mm wide band around the blunt side of the blade and has a 53 cm long extension in front of the cutting edge. This is broader on the front side and has a wavy profile on the edge. Slightly curved, short crossguard (6.6 cm long), band-shaped in the middle, round bar at the ends with a final knob. Total length 86 cm.Minimal rust scars and chips on the blade. Extremely well-preserved, professionally restored, desalinated and stabilized iron sword. Rare, especially in this excellent condition.Provenance: South German private collection.Condition: II
