**Early 1943 Underwood U.S. M1 Carbine
World War II
.30 Carbine. 18" barrel length. SN: 1393021. Parkerized metal finish with walnut semi-pistol grip high-wood I-cut stock. Gas piston operated semi-automatic rifle fed by a detachable magazine. The chamber is marked U.S. CARBINE/CAL. 30 M1 with the rear of receiver is marked UNDERWOOD over the serial number. The barrel is marked UNDERWOOD/3-43/{Flaming Bomb}. The gun is an early 1st production block carbine(1,355,000-1,449,999) that has the correct I-cut high wood stock with a correct boxed UEF/GHD inspection cartouche without an Ordnance Wheel stamp on the obverse stock. A clear {Circle-P} is stamped on the base of the pistol grip and an M-U is stamped in the sling cut out on the reverse. The Type I deep groove two-rivet handguard is stamped RMC underneath and is secured by a Type I barrel band with flat, unmarked swivel. The trigger housing is stamped with a {Flaming Bomb} underneath, a U on the inner face of the magazine well, a U on the hammer and has a blued, flat top bolt. The Type I rear sight is marked S on the left side and the front sight blade is marked U on the rear of its base. The carbine is accompanied by an IU marked oiler, a faded OD green web sling and a RUGG marked Type II magazine.

Condition
Fine. Bore is fine, mostly bright with fine rifling and some dust near the muzzle. The muzzle gauges 1 and the chamber gauges 3. The barrel retains most of the Parkerized finish with the bolt showing much of the blue, both showing some thinning and wear. All markings remain fairly crisp and clear. Action is mechanically functional. Stock is crisp with some scattered bumps, dings and mars. Sling with moderate wear, fading and discoloration. Magazine with some surface oxidation.
