Rare large number 402 (for an albino Baby) end stamped picture box, featuring a clear illustration of the "CRAWDAD", dating from the late teens, this desirable light green box with red printing is in much better condition than most, about Ex- overall, due almost entirely to wear and rubs to one end flap, most likely from removing a sticker or label. Housing an early Crawdad in tan crab with an unmarked tail/lip, separated legs (most are present) otherwise shiny Ex, definitely unfished. Also included is a large format 1919 fold out catalog, in Ex-/Ex condition. The box includes the Sheridan R. Jones collection stamp on the interior of the lid, with this exact package pictured on page 54 of "The Life and Legend of Sheridan R. Jones".

Referred to as "America's pioneering outdoor writer", Sheridan Jones (1881-1958) was certainly one of the most respected and prolific angling writers of his era. Many of the lures offered in this auction, where noted, were personally owned by Jones. Several were given to the esteemed author and outdoor writer for his professional opinion, others as gifts by lure makers vying for his favor. Stated best by author Joseph Hilko in his 2010 book The Life and Legend of Sheridan R. Jones: "Jones' legacy as an educator, naturalist, professional writer and world-class angler is worthy of remembrance today".
