Artist Biography
Mimi Miller was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the summer of 1990. At the age of five, her family relocated to the east side of the state and have called the Metro Detroit Area home ever since. A storyteller since gaining the ability to talk, Miller began illustrating her tales at six years old in crayon and colored pencil. Her drawing skills excelled with the help of art lessons, and at the age of ten she showed her first official piece of artwork at a local art exhibition. So began her life as an artist.
Miller focused on the arts, theater, and music throughout her schooling, and was accepted to the Savannah College of Art Design where she majored in Illustration. During her time there, she took classes that combined sculpting, drawing, and painting to explore science and the southern nature around her, all of which ultimately lead to a certification as a Scientific Illustrator through California State University.
Since completing college, Miller has steadily worked for major scientific publishers and personal clients. ?I?m very thankful for the opportunities that have come my way,? she explains, ?but it got to a point where I just wasn?t finding satisfaction in my artwork anymore. So, I decided to turn my attention to abstract art, and I can?t believe how happy it?s made me. The freedom and fearlessness I feel while I paint is nothing like what I experienced illustrating for science books. Each brushstroke is unexpected and organic; it feels like I am leaving a new reflection of myself on each canvas.?
With the use of metallic leaf and luminous layers of acrylic paint, Mimi Miller aims to create original abstract paintings that inspire the viewer and positively influence the mood of a room.
