Description
This is a rather interesting map of much of siberia. it is showing the regions covered by the renowned Danish explorer, Capt. Vitus Behring, between the city of Tobolski, past Lake Baikal, along the upper reaches of the Lena River to the Kamchatka peninsula. The map has longitudes shown from two points; the first east from London and the second from Tobolski, Siberia. The large and decorative title cartouche shows native hunters under a snowy sky. Behring, a Dane in Russian Service, is best known for his voyages in the icy seas between northeast Asia and present day Alaska, which now bear his name.
