唐 石雕天王立像
The guardian finely carved standing, right hand missing, left hand resting on his lap, dressed in full armor with large circular breastplates and a bow-tied cape around his shoulder, the stern expression accentuated with a prominent nose and full-lipped mouth, hair tied in to a high chignon. Tang Dynasty period.

Height: 11 in (27.9 cm) Width: 6 in (15.2 cm)

Provenance: From the private collection of Little Meditation Retreat, New York. Acquired from late Mr. Norio Azuma (1928 - 2004) in the late 1990s. Norio Azuma was a Japanese American painter and serigraph artist who worked in a modernist style.He has exhibited his work internationally, in venues such as the Tokyo Modern Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art
This stone carved Heavenly Guardian King statue bears a resemblance to a marble Tang Dynasty Heavenly King statue in the collection of Xi'an Museum, China. The latter was excavated in 1965 from Jianxin Village in the Lianhu District of Xi'an City
