Federal Style Tiger Maple Drop-Leaf Work Table, Donald A. Dunlap, Antrim, New Hampshire, Undated. The rectangular top with molded drop leaves above two bow-front drawers, raised on square tapered legs, signed and dated in pencil under the top "Donald A. Dunlap/ Cabinetmaker/ Antrim NH." H: 28.125 in., W: 17.25 in. (closed), 32.75 in. (open), D: 17.875 in. The Dunlap family of cabinetmakers from the Merrimack Valley region originated with Major John Dunlap (1746-1792), who worked in Goffstown and Bedford, New Hampshire in the 1760s. Over the next decade he trained many apprentices, journeymen and family members, including his brother Lieutenant Samuel Dunlap. Subsequent generations of Dunlap family cabinetmakers continued in the tradition of making distinctive New Hampshire furniture, influenced by designs brought to this country by Scotch-Irish immigrants.
