Description
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th century CE. A colorful handle - intended for a ceremonial kris dagger - that is hand-carved from a fossilized piece of bone. The layers include hues of cream, caramel, and espresso, and the curved form bears an abstract anthropomorphic face on the end. Size: 3.5" L x 1.125" W x 2.25" H (8.9 cm x 2.9 cm x 5.7 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010
