Description
Ancient Central Asia, southern Azerbaijan and northern Iran, Intermediate to Late Bronze Age, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A splendid and quite sizable grayware jar boasting a voluminous, globular body with an attenuated, cylindrical neck, and a flared rim. A decorative, raised band wraps horizontally around the body, while incised, striped bands undulate across the rounded shoulder. A dish of such grand scale and skilled craftsmanship as this example would have been reserved for the elite of ancient society. Size: 15" Diameter x 14.4" H (38.1 cm x 36.6 cm)
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.
Provenance: private Greenwood Village, Colorado, USA collection, via inheritance; Leota Furlong Agett Persian Pottery collection, acquired in Tehran, Iran in the early 1960s

Condition
Professionally repaired and restored with repainting over break lines; all done expertly and very difficult to distinguish. A few minor nicks and scratches to surface as shown, but otherwise, excellent presentation with good preservation of decoration. Tl holes to base and beneath rim.
