Description
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A set of 5 frogs, each larger than the last, and each with a gleaming golden hue. The smallest is formed from 62.95% gold, and the next-largest is formed from tumbaga with 59.90% gold. All 3 of the largest frogs are formed from gilt copper with between 2.68% and 31.07% gold. Included is a fragment of a gilt copper frog. Size of largest: 1.47" L x 1.01" W x 0.69" H (3.7 cm x 2.6 cm x 1.8 cm); gold quality: between 2.68 and 62.95%; total weight: 20.7 grams.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Royce Humbert collection, Illinois, USA, acquired 1988 to 1995

One fragmentary leg as shown. Larger frogs are each missing 1 limb. Abrasions, encrustations, and patina accumulation, with abrasions to golden areas, otherwise in nice condition. Great patina.
