Description
A bright and festive folk art textile artwork called an "Arpillera" in South American culture. Circa 1970s, Peruvian. The tapestry illustrates a lively "Mercardo" (market) scene with "camisas" (shirts), "telas" (fabrics), "verduras" (vegetables), and "pantalones" (pants). A detail of craftsmanship with embroidery and hand-sewn three-dimensional construction. Arpilleras are brightly colored patchwork works of art stitched onto a backing. Though textile art, impoverished talented women would protest atrocities and express daily life. From a private collection. Dimensions: 23.5"h x 25.5"w x 2.5"d (framed). In exceptionally good vintage condition.
