A unique set of Jemez pottery from New Mexico. Each vessel is signed - L Toya with the annotation "Jemez N.M" and "Java." The vessel is fired earthenware with highly stylized geometric designs in turquoise as well as stark black and white. The vessel signed as "Java" has an iconic southwest scenery with cactus designs. Jemez pottery has been sought after by collectors for decades. The Native American people of this region are known for a wealth of culture and art. Recognized for the intricate line designs which the artists completed freehand. Although decorative, the objects were made with functionality in mind and could also be used for drinking, storage, or ceremonial purposes. From a private collection. Dimensions: 5.25"h x 5.5"dia / 1.75"h x 1.75"dia. In exceptionally good vintage condition consistent with age.
