An energetic abstract expressionist acrylic painting on canvas with an aura burst of colorization in purple, orange, and blue by Michigan artist Douglas Hesseltine. Signed top right and dated 1971. The minimal pillar-like composition is a dramatic statement in a modern or contemporary designed space. Hesseltine (1943-2015) graduated from University of Michigan in 1970 with a BFA from the school of Art and Architecture. He joined the faculty of the University of Michigan as assistant professor in 1977. Subsequently, he was appointed the Director of Design for the whole of the University. His work is represented in several of Michigan's premier galleries including the Detroit Institute of Art. He co-founded Quorum Communications, and later Hesseltine and Demason Design Inc., and was a recipient of dozens of design awards. From a private collection.
