Description
A rare chair prototype - the "Rye Chair" by Ralph Rye for Dunbar / Dux Furniture. Circa 1970. The frame is constructed with tubular stainless steel. This version has the cushion seat, upholstered in orange Knoll fabric, original to the prototype. The cantilever design is an homage to the Bauhaus with designers such as Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breur. Prior to Ralph Rye studying design at the University of Cincinnati, he worked in a steel factory which gave him the foundation for molding metals for furniture designs. Dimensions: 34.25"h x 30"d x 24.25"w x 24.25"arm height x 20.5"seat height x 18"seat depth. In very good vintage condition. Provenance: From the personal collection of designer Ralph Rye - a multi-talented visionary with a career in city planning, architecture, interior design, lighting, and furniture design. Rye has collaborated with some of the finest furniture companies in America including Dunbar, Nessen, Thonet, Jens Risom, and Baker.
