A rare drafting stool designed by renowned architect and designer Eero Saarinen for Knoll, 1956. Model 77 S of the 70 series. Original light brown leather upholstery with a chrome pedestal, x-form base, and circular footrest. An adjustable seat for comfort and casters to allow for movement while completing tasks. The stool was designed specifically for the General Motors Technical Center project located in Warren, Michigan. When the campus opened in 1956, the GM Technical Center was the largest corporate building project in the world. The national attention from the project was a pivotal moment in Eero Saarinen's career. Dimensions: 38"h x 21.5"d x 19.5"w x 25.75"seat height x 18.25"seat depth. In excellent vintage condition. Provenance: From the personal collection of designer Ralph Rye - a multi-talented visionary with a career in city planning, architecture, interior design, lighting, and furniture design. Rye has collaborated with some of the finest furniture companies in America including Dunbar, Nessen, Thonet, Jens Risom, and Baker.
