LeCoultre 10 karat gold filled "Wrist Alarm" strap wristwatch
Of mechanical movement with 17 jewels number 668768, calibre 489, white and silver tone concentric dial with rotating inner dial for alarm with arrow indicator, dart hands, Arabic numerals and baton markers and Arabic numeral at 12 o'clock, case number T955183 with crown for time at 4 o'clock, crown for alarm at 2 o'clock, attached to a black strap with a gold filled buckle. Case back engraved "A New Star / Was Born / Tony Bennett / Ray / March 9 / 1950." Case measuring 32mm.
The inscription from Ray Muscarella, Bennett's early manager, is referencing the fact that Bennett played The Copa for the first time on March 9, 1950. Only a year prior to this, Bennett had been spotted by Pearl Bailey who asked him to open for her in Greenwich Village. Bob Hope saw him performing at one of Bailey's shows and invited him on the road. In 1950 Bennett recorded a demo of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and was signed to Columbia Records. This Copa performance was another early milestone in what would become a legendary career.
