The canvas has been relined and cleaned. Old restorations and numerous repairs are visible throughout the canvas, some of which can be seen in the catalogue illustration. In raking light it is possible to see an area of old restoration between the figure of Peter and the woman.
Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals: the aforementioned repairs and restorations visible to the naked eye. The largest restoration is between Peter and the woman - a P-shaped area approximately 30x12cm. Further restorations include an X-shaped repair to Peter's robes, several vertical lines of restoration through the figure of the woman, right, numerous areas of restoration to the background, and further scattered smaller areas of infilling throughout. Almost all of the restoration which can be seen under ultra-violet light is also visible to the naked eye.
