Uneven varnish; three white spots at the center right, near the edge. light surface soiling; slight buckling in the canvas at the corners; drying cracks in the lower 1/5 of the picture, most noticeable in the wood of the bookshelf but also present in the subject’s sleeve; under UV light it appears that the contours along the artist's back, his hand, and his neck have been reinforced.
