Biography: Luigi Lucioni, a realist painter known for his landscapes and portraits, has died at age 87. Mr. Lucioni had considerable success early in his career. By popular vote, he won first prize at the 1939 Carnegie International Exhibition for the portrait of Ethel Waters. Also, by popular vote, his painting won first prize at the Corcoran Biennials of 1939, 1941,1947 and 1949. He was born in 1900 in Malnate, near Milan in northern Italy, and came to the United States when he was 10. He studied at Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design. Mr. Lucioni's work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He died in his home in New York's Greenwich Village on Friday. There are no survivors.
