Description
A set of 4 George III 18th century silver candlesticks, mark of John Schofield, London 1790/1, the filled circular slightly dished base of each with reeded decoration and engraved with the arms of BURROUGHES with DENTON in pretence, fluted and knopped tapering columns, fluted campana shaped sconce and part marked detachable wax pan engraved with the crest of BURROUGHES, 14cm diameter at the base, 30cm high (4) The armorials commemorate the marriage of Randall Burroughes (1761-1817), of Burfield Hall, near Wymondham, Norfolk and Anne Denton (1761-1827). Randall and Anne were married at the Parish Church of St Mary and St Thomas of Canterbury (otherwise known as Wymondham Abbey) on 19th July 1792. Randall was the youngest and second surviving son of Jeremiah Burroughes, of Wymondham and his wife, Diana Burkin, and Anne was the youngest daughter and co-heiress of Samuel Denton and his wife, Jane Proctor. Randall served as both a Justice of the Peace and a Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Norfolk.
