[BRITISH POLITICS]. A group of approximately 35 works by prominent British political figures, many specializing in diplomacy, finance, or military matters, including: 


1) STEELE, Richard. The Crisis: Or, a Discourse Representing... the Just Causes of the Late Happy Revolution. And the Several Settlements of the Crowns of England and Scotland. London: Printed by Sam Buckley, 1714. Later wrappers.

2) VILLIERS, George. Autograph letter signed ("G.V."), to Mr. Auckland. Paris: 12 November 1832. 8 pages, on 2 4to folio sheets, some repairs. Marked "Private," this letter was written before Villiers' appointment to Minister at the Court of Spain in August 1833, just after he was sent to France in 1831 in an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate a commercial treaty.

3) NORTHCOTE, Stafford, Sir. Autograph letter signed ("S.H. Northcote"), as private secretary to William E. Gladstone to an unidentified recipient. Whitehall, 22 February 1844. 1 page, small 8vo. Gladstone was then the president of the board of trade, and Northcote declined to become a subscriber of a journal.

4) MONTGOMERY, Bernard Law. Autograph letter signed ("B.L. Montgomery") to an unidentified recipient. N.p., 5 August 1926. 3 pages, on a bifolium, on Staff College, Camberley letterhead, some hole-punches and tearing. Regarding his recent marriage and related to upcoming vacation plans.

5) MOUNTBATTEN OF BURMA, Louis 1st Earl. Typed letter signed ("Mountbatten of Burma"), as Chief of the Defence Staff to Nicke. London, 10 May 1962. 1 page, 8vo, on Chief of the Defence Staff stationery. Regarding an invitation to see the Installation Service of the Order of the Garter at St. George's Chapel.
