Description
Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907.
An exceptional Chinese terracotta horse. It is depicted with its head held high facing upwards, the hind legs slightly bent, as if the horse had just landed after having been held to a halt. On the horseback, there are decorated saddle clothes topped with a seat, and twelve bells worn around the chest and hind, all painted with red pigments. The face and mane have been molded with great details. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.

Provenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
