Description
Late Period, Ca. 644 - 332 BC.
An Egyptian bronze statuette of standing Anubis with short ears, realised in natural manners. Funerary amulets frequently took on the likeness of protective deities associated with safeguarding the deceased. Anubis, depicted with the head of a jackal, was responsible for overseeing the intricate embalming rituals. Revered as the "lord of the sacred grounds," he acted as the guardian of the necropolis. Anubis played a pivotal role in the afterlife judgment process, presiding over the weighing of the heart before Osiris. For similar see, the MET Museum Accession Number: 04.2.151.
