Egyptian, Late Period, 26th Dynasty 624-525 B.C..Copper alloy, eyes with gold and niello inlay. H. 33.2 cm. L. 15 cmVery fine statuette of Neith, the goddess of war, with original, richly inscribed bases. She is standing above 7 bows as a symbol of her power. In front of her kneels an adorant (donor of the figure). Neith wears the red crown of Lower Egypt, a long tight-fitting robe and a wide neck collar. Her eyes are inlaid with gold and niello. Her slightly raised left arm holds once bow and arrows, the right hand an Ankh-sign. Both bases with detailed inscription:" Neith may give life and health to Osiris (...), son of (…) and (…).” Very good condition, back part of the larger base is missing. Attributes of the goddess missing. Restored break on top of the crown.Collection Carl Leonhard Burckhardt (1902-1965).
