Description
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC.
An Egyptian bronze sculpture of a snake depicted in an attacking position, with the head protruding forward and the mouth half-open. The snake's coils are narrow and the scales are made in a very naturalistic manner, reaching all the way to the end of the tail. The eye sockets are empty but must have contained hard stones, perhaps even precious ones. For similar see: MET Museum Accession Number: X.21.99. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
Size: 50mm x 90mm; Weight: 65g
Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014, acquired from Rhea Gallery, 16 June, 2008; Ex. Ph. Schuler, Zurich, Auction 79, lot nr. 9002; Ex. Swiss private collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
