Description
Farm Scene, 1946, watercolor on paper, 13 x 19 1/2, signed lower right: Lirl Treuter 1946, Treuter attended Texas Wesleyan College, now Texas Wesleyan University, in the mid-1940s, during which time she studied under famous Fort Worth Circle modernist, Kelly Fearing (American, 1918-2011). Treuter’s style reflects the influence of Fearing’s instruction, not only in the depiction of regionalist subject matter, but also in her simplification and stylization of form. Fearing allegedly considered Treuter to be one of his most promising students. Treuter exhibited work in notable Texas shows, such as the traveling Annual Exhibition of Texas Painting and Sculpture (1950-1955). Her career included serving as the Head of the Art Reference Department at the Fort Worth Public Library.
