Variation Theme No. 3, 1982, oil on board, 30 x 20, signed lower right: T82; signed on verso: Variation Theme No. 3, 1982, Randall Timmons, Timmons’ exploration of geometric abstraction aligned him with midcentury Texas modernist painters, like Paul Maxwell. He trained with Maxwell in Houston and would go on to exhibit with him in Texas shows. Maxwell received his undergraduate degree from Memphis Academy of Art, now Memphis College of Art, and earned his MFA from Syracuse University in 1972. He has exhibited in New York City, New Orleans, and Washington D.C., and now resides in Richmond, Virginia. Timmons has work in several permanent collections, including the Brooklyn Museum. His recent body of work includes sculpture and furniture, citing a desire to distance himself from contemporary painting circles.
