Description
WILLIAM FENTON, NEWCASTLE. A RARE YEAR GOING GEORGE III LONGCASE CLOCK WILLIAM FENTON, NEWCASTLE. A RARE YEAR GOING GEORGE III LONGCASE CLOCK with pierced swan neck pediment above a glazed door with brass caped reeded Corinthian columns on shell inlaid trunk with reeded canted corners, the 14" arched brass dial with gilt rococo spandrels and silvered chapter ring surrounding a silvered engraved dial depicting Old Father Time above a calendar aperture, the arch with name boss fronting a substantial year going weight driven movement with fine spoked wheel work striking the hours on a bell (251cm high)Notes from vendor: I purchase this clock in 1998. It had a broken tooth repaired and all wheels tipped and trued. Never a problem since but definitely a two-handed job to wind (anti-clockwise)The early C20 letter by the original owners family is from Durker House, Wakefield. My sister-in- law lived there. Birtley House and Durker House were coal mine owners property and transferred to NCB.
