Description
Lot includes a cased "service memory" portrait photo album of an officer who served in the Imperial German Kaiserliche Marine, the interwar years and the Third Reich's Kriegsmarine. The 25 portrait photos represent his early Kaiserliche Marine career, have a presentation plaque on the cover, and are in box adorned with emblems and an officer's belt with buckle of that era. Included are a number of copies of his biographical history to include "Rank List" copies from 1912 to 1944, and a German Cross in Gold list. Also included are 2 WWI "U-Boat Iron Cross Relic Medals". In the summer of 1916, when the US was still neutral, the Imperial German cargo submarine "Deutschland" arrived in Baltimore harbor and replaced its pig-iron ballast with cargo. Several of these medals commemorating the voyage were made from that pig-iron by a local German-American. The medals have the voyage date of "9 Juli 1916" cast on them, as well as a portrait of the U-boat's Captain (Kapitan Paul Koenig) in brass. The reverse has a brass medallion representing the U-Boat. CONDITION: Overall very good. WEZ Paperwork: Biographical pages.
