Item Details
Description
Gun (A) manufactured circa 1862 with desirable 6" octagon barrel, Hartford address, brass pin front sight, 6-shot cylinder, silver plate grip straps, and 1-piece varnished walnut grips. Gun (B) was manufactured circa 1853 in similar configuration, with New York address and 5-shot cylinder. This pair is vertically cased in a very scarce blue crushed velvet lined hardwood case with accessory drawer. Another example of this casing is pictured on page 247 of "Colt's Pocket '49" by Robert Jordan, which identifies it as the only example known to the author. This additional example is accompanied by an eagle motif powder flask, Colt's Patent mold, and round balls. CONDITION: Gun (A) is near fine. Strong traces of faded original blue are retained on the barrel, the balance faded to gray patina with oxidation spots. Strong muted case colors visible on the frame. Portions of silver are retained on the trigger guard, the balance exhibiting a golden mellow patina. Markings including cylinder scene are sharp and legible. Grips are good with scattered impressions. Strong bore with a few oxidation spots. Crisp mechanics. Matching numbers observed throughout. Gun (B) is very good with an overall brown patina and some cleaned oxidation spots. Straps retain traces of silver with a cleaned brass patina. Grips have wear and scattered marks.
