Manufactured in 1887. Fitted with a 30" blued No.3 weight round barrel stamped at the breech with ".40 EX" caliber designation and British proofs. Blade front sight and sporting rear. Attractively case hardened high wall receiver. Ebony inlaid Schnabel tip varnished walnut splinter forend. Straight grip walnut stock with steel shotgun butt plate and on the right side a round "LONDON ARMOURY / JAs KERR & Co / 118 QUEEN VICTORIA. ST E.C" stamp. James Kerr & Co. acted as the sole agents for Winchester in England at the time, and operated from the 118 Queen Victoria Street address from 1882 to 1887. CONDITION: Very fine. Barrel retains the vast majority of its original factory blue with some evidence of cleaned oxidation throughout, especially towards the muzzle. Receiver case colors are especially strong and dark, with some fading on the lower tang. Lever sides retain portions of case hardening the balance fading to patina with some oxidation. Butt plate likewise displays an oxidized brown patina with some pitting. Stocks are very fine with the usual scattered marks and some mild varnish loss near the butt plate. Retailer mark is sharp and legible. Bore is especially fine and bright. Crisp mechanics.
