Notes & Literature: The Whampoa Pagoda (Chinese: ???), also known as the Pazhou Pagoda (???) or Pa Chow Pogoda (???), is an early modern Chinese pagoda on Pazhou Island in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, the capital of China's Guangdong Province. It was built during the reign of the Wanli Emperor of the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and completed in 1600.

The pagoda is an octagonal, nine-story brick structure with a height of 57.6 meters (189 ft). It is one of the tallest pagodas in southern China and is a prominent landmark in Guangzhou. The pagoda is also a popular tourist destination, offering panoramic views of the city and the Pearl River.

The Whampoa Pagoda was originally built as a navigational aid for ships entering the port of Guangzhou. It was also a popular place of pilgrimage for Buddhists and Taoists. In the 19th century, the pagoda became a popular subject for Western artists and photographers.

The Whampoa Pagoda has been damaged and rebuilt several times over the centuries. It was most recently damaged during the Second World War, but was rebuilt in the 1950s. The pagoda is now a protected historical monument.
