Rare - Hovey was friends with George Eastman. Hovey & Brainerd was a photography studio in Rome, New York that was founded in 1872 by H. Hovey and Jonathan Millard Brainerd. The studio was located at 40, 42, and 44 Dominick Street. Hovey & Brainerd specialized in portrait photography, and they produced a wide variety of cabinet cards, cartes de visite, and stereographs.
br>The studio was very successful, and it operated for over 20 years. In 1882, Hovey retired from the business, and Brainerd bought out his share of the studio. Brainerd continued to operate the studio under the name Brainerd Photo Company until his death in 1926.
