Description
†Matilde Alberny
(American/Louisiana, Contemporary)
"My Day With You", 2012
mixed media and collage on canvas
signed lower right.
Framed.
framed 26" x 26"
Provenance: Private collection, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Together for twenty-seven years, Matilde Alberny and Gustavo Duque have created hundreds of works about their relationship. Alberny first fell in love with Duque's work after seeing an exhibition by the artist, and arranged a studio visit soon thereafter. Their working relationship quickly became a romantic one and this has influenced the work of both artists ever since. My Day With You is one such memory of their journey together; a female nude at the center of the composition leans down, surrounded by a collage of other women that are reminiscent of the cycles of the moon. They are perhaps a depiction of different emotional states, or the nude in other stages of her life. The figures in Alberny's painting seems to be in conversation with the many figures that populate Duque's own work, exemplifying the inextricable link between the two artists' careers.
