In the 1950s, art dealer Larry Borenstein hosted nightly musical performances featuring older jazz musicians in his St. Peter Street gallery. By 1961, Borenstein's art gallery has been transformed into Preservation Hall under the direction of Alan and Sandra Jaffee.

Drummer Alex Bigard and alto saxophonist Captain John Handy were part of the New Orleans Jazz revival and made regular appearances at Preservation Hall. As a young artist working in his Art Patio Studio in the French Quarter, Rolland Golden painted "Jazz Musicians" which pays tribute to the talented group of jazz musicians who were able to resurrect their careers at Preservation Hall.

No signs of past restoration; surface dirt and toning of the varnish layer; small area pf loss/hole upper center (background); scattered small dark dot accretions; small surface marks lower center (under chair) and upper center and left (background). Frame with surface marks, nicks and toning to the linen liner.
