Antique American sunset winter landscape oil painting by A. Joseph Abram (1880 - 1957). Oil on board. Signed. Framed.Please see all images for condition. For detailed condition questions please text 617-835-2496.Artist Bio:Born Anton J. Kaminsky on January 13, 1880 in Chicago Illinois, he took his step-father's last name of Abram because his own father had died. Anton served in the Spanish American War. He was married to Meta W. Mollnhauer in 1909, and the couple had a son named Edgar J. Abram, who served in WWII. A. J. Abram studied under Carl Olsen at the Art Institute of Chicago circa 1916. In Chicago, he was a member of the Sign and Pictorial Painters Local 830, and the Business Men's Art Club.His close friends, referred to as "The Gang," included: Frank Nicholson, Carl Olsen, Louis Hankes, Claude Jackson, Fred Ellis, and Seymour Stone. They are listed artists commissioned to paint portraits of Governors, Political Cartoons, Illustrations in Russia, London, and several other European countries. A.J. Abrams won a W.S.S. competition, and his winning piece was donated by the American Institute of Graphic Art to the National War Saving Committee. He placed a poster into the Illinois Centennial competition (1917) and had his artwork included at the Art Institute of Chicago Exhibition of Posters "U.S. Now." He painted a plaque for the Deposit Central School, and did a painting for the Northwood Evengelical Lutheran Church, Chicago. He painted a mural on the walls of the WSCS Church in Windsor (1943) "in memory of the youth who have gone from our midst to serve this country of ours".He displayed and sold artwork at Exhibition by Artists of Chicago at Davis Store Galleries, Salon Des Refuses, circa 1935.
