Description American Machine Works Smith Carbine chambered in .50 Smith with a single shot breech loading capacity and a 21.6" barrel. Four digit serial number of 9627. Patinated blued barrel, trigger, and hammer. Saddle ring and saddle bar. Smooth wood forend and straight stock with metal butt plate. Rear sight base missing the rear sight and fixed front blade sight. The left side of the frame is marked "SMITH'S PATENT JUNE 23, 1857", "ADDRESS POULTNEY & TRIMBLE BALTIMORE U.S.A.". The manufacture stamp is faded and difficult to read. Two cartouches on the left side of the stocks grip. The left side of the barrel is stamped "LFR". Antique ships directly to MOST buyers home. Condition: Antique Good with heavy finish loss/patina throughout the metal parts. Spots of metal oxidation and pitting. General scratches, scuffs, and dings on the wood. Missing the rear sight. Most of the markings are still visible and crisp other than the manufactures mark. The action is tight and appears to function as expected. Decent bore with spots of metal oxidation throughout but shows strong visible rifling considering the age.
