Description
First Nations, Northwestern Canada, Yukon, ca. mid-20th century CE. A pair of vintage mukluk shoes made from deer hide with a cotton lining; the exterior ornately decorated with fur and beadwork, as well as felt appliques. This pair was likely made for the tourist trade, and "YUKON" is beaded onto the toes to remember this keepsake. The white fur may be arctic fox and the shorter brown hairs suggest rabbit fur. Size: 9" L x 3" W x 8.5" H (22.9 cm x 7.6 cm x 21.6 cm)
Provenance: Private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Losses to beadwork on the toes of both. Light wear to soles. Upper beadwork and fur on the ankles have a few losses, but good condition. A few unraveling / fraying seams along felt appliques.
