It shows a group of animal studies including goats and cattle. While unsigned, the painting has two gallery provenance labels from the Borghi & Co. and Salander O'Reilly Galleries, both in NYC. This painting relates to three other animal studies that were sold by Sotheby's auction in 1994. They were done by Bierstadt at his studio at Woodward's Garden in California circa 1872.
