It shows a handler leading a racehorse and jockey with a crowd of well dressed gentleman examining the entry. You can see the white fence and gate to the course just behind the figures. Binet is very well listed with an overall record high sale of $66,000 for a oil of a Paris street scene. A 28x45 oil of a horse race sold for $16,000 hammer at Leland Little auction in NC. There are four sales of horse race scenes done in w/c and gouache similar to this one. A 24 x 32 has sold twice, once for $6800 and once for $6200. A 26 x 32 sold for $4700. And, a 20 x 24 sold this year for $3300. These are all hammer prices, so add 25% or so for what the buyer actually paid.
