A black and white photograph featuring an aircraft labeled "F.14", landed aboard the deck of a large vessel. Signed "Roald Amundsen" in green ink at top right. Featuring the backstamp of the International Newsreel Corp. on verso. Slight clipping to three corners, with general surface creasing and age toning throughout. Else, very good. Measuring 10" x 8", no place, undated. encapsulated to the overall size of 9.75" x 13" and PSA verified authentic.
Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen (1872-1928) was a Norwegian explorer and a key figure during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. His first polar trek occurred in 1897 when he joined the Belgian Antarctic Expedition at the age of 25. He would later go on to successfully traverse the Northwest Passage, explore the South Pole, and navigate the North Pole and Northeast Passage. On June 18, 1928, Amundsen disappeared during a rescue mission in the Arctic. His remains were never recovered, with the search party having been called off in September of that year.
